Smart Broadcast

What is Smart Broadcast production?

Smart Broadcast is the production philosophy behind every Pélicom project. It means delivering broadcast-quality output that is engineered to the actual requirements of the event — not to the maximum specification of the equipment catalogue, and not to the minimum that the budget allows.

The result is a live production that performs reliably, looks professional, and satisfies broadcasters, federations and sponsors — without the overhead of infrastructure that the event does not need.

Where this comes from

Pélicom operates at an unusual position in the Hungarian broadcast market. We produce live events ourselves — and we commission productions from the major Hungarian broadcast houses. That dual role means we understand, from both sides, exactly where production complexity adds visible value to the audience, and where it simply adds cost and operational risk.

Full-scale broadcast deployments come with infrastructure layers designed for the most demanding live productions in the world: high-end centralised camera control systems, large-scale instant replay platforms, and extensive signal routing architectures. For international finals and flagship broadcasts, every one of those layers earns its place. For the majority of domestic sports productions — including those distributed on Hungarian sports-themed television channels — these elements are either unnecessary or substitutable without any impact on what the viewer, the broadcaster, or the federation will notice.

Knowing precisely which decisions carry risk and which do not is a form of expertise that only comes from working at both levels of the industry simultaneously.

What this means in practice

A Smart Broadcast production is not a reduced production. It is a production where every technical decision has been made deliberately — with full knowledge of what the broadcaster requires, what the federation mandates, and what the audience will actually see.

This is why Pélicom can deliver 6–8 camera television productions at a cost structure that larger broadcast houses cannot match for events of this scale — and why international federations including FIBA, LEN, CEV and World Aquatics have trusted us with host broadcast responsibilities where failure is not an option.

Beyond broadcast – What else leaves the venue?

A live production does not end with the final whistle. While the broadcast is running, our production workflow simultaneously generates ready-to-use media assets: short clips exported directly from the production switcher, highlight sequences rendered during the event, and interview footage processed for short-form social formats.

By the time the event is over, the following are already available: exportable clip sequences from the live feed, highlight reels from key moments captured during the production, mixed zone interview footage in formats suitable for short-form social content, and a full recorded archive written to cloud storage in real time.

Where relevant, the production team can include a dedicated cinematic videographer for daily mood content, and an international-standard sports photographer covering the event in parallel.

Is Smart Broadcast right for your event?

If your event is being distributed to a broadcaster, streamed publicly, or presented to sponsors and rights holders — and you want broadcast-quality output without paying for infrastructure your event does not require — then yes.

If your event genuinely requires the full deployment of a major outside broadcast house, we will tell you that too. And if that is the case, we can help you manage that production as broadcast manager rather than deliver it ourselves.

Either way, you will get an honest answer about what your event actually needs.
